Aylesbury United 0-3 London Lions

Aylesbury United 0-3 London Lions

Shayni Marriner2 Feb - 13:15

Lifting Lions to 12th in the table!

Our first team picked up another three points on Saturday with an impressive 3-0 win away at Aylesbury United. With six points separating the two teams at the start of play this was another of those games that Lions needed to win or at the very least not lose.

The game started brightly with Lions dominating the first twenty minutes with Daniel Creese, Max Davis, Zack Jackson and Jack Mattey all having chances. Aylesbury worked their way back into the game but rarely threatened and keeper Nathan Bloohn was only forced into one real save at his near post. Goalless at half-time but Lions really could have been three or four to the good.

Into the second half and Lions continued to create with Creese, Davis and Jackson all coming close but we finally got our reward in the 56th minute. John Levy's cross field pass found Mattey on the right hand side. His cross hitting the foot of the defender which fell to Jackson. Jackson turned to lay the ball off to an unmarked Max Davis to side foot home from two yards. 1-0 Lions.

The hosts went in search of an equaliser without really troubling the Lions back line. Then as we approached the last 15 minutes of the game, Ben Barnett intercepted the ball just outside of the Lions box. He found Max Davis in space who played a brilliant through ball for Daniel Creese to run on to. With the Aylesbury defenders unable to catch Creese, he picked his spot from just inside the Aylesbury penalty area to slot the ball past the keeper. 2-0 Lions.

Aylesbury did create a couple of decent chances to pull a goal back but the points were sealed in the 93rd minute when Max Davis picked the ball up deep inside his own half, once again picking out the gap to play another through ball for Daniel Creese to chase. Creese then played the ball square to Max Davis just inside the opposition box and he picked his spot to make it 3-0 Lions.

The win lifts Lions up to 12th in the table and we are now 16 points clear of relegation and just 9 points off the last play-off spot.
